A Dog Is For Life

A dog is for life not a present

Each year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are killed every year because shelters are too full and there are not enough adoptive homes. All across the world shelters are overflowing with pets in need of a home. How could so many pets end up here? When an animal ends up in a shelter it is not their fault!

Here are the top reasons dogs end up in shelters:

1. Training: Many people get a dog not aware of how much training is involved. A dog does not come trained. They need a responsible owner who is willing to put in hours of setting rules, boundaries, limitations, and commands.

2. Lifestyle: People losing their job, getting a divorce, having a new baby, or encountering difficulties with their health are also common reasons that dogs end up in shelters. A person may become overwhelmed by a dog when they have a new baby, they may be unable to attend to them if they are unhealthy themselves, or find themselves too stressed to pay attention to a dog because of a demanding new job.

3. Moving: Sometimes people cannot take their dog with them. They may be forced to relocate to an apartment where they're not allowed to keep pets. As well as some jobs may not allow room for a pet.

4. Time: Our lives are busy, having a dog requires making time to properly care for them.

Before you get a dog ask yourself if you'll be able to show them the attention and love they deserve. Think you're ready to get a dog? Read some of the following articles that may help you along the way.
